SPEND ON THE EXPERIENCE

Two routes worth comparing

These are editorial route assessments based on published schedules, not firsthand airline reviews. We have not flown or rated these services. Search your exact outward and return dates before paying; December operation and availability must be confirmed with the airline.

BRAȘOV BASE

London Luton → Brașov (GHV)

Our take: Start with this route if your holiday centres on Brașov and Bran. Arriving near your base can make a slightly higher fare worthwhile.

Wizz Air's Luton service appears in the official Brașov airport schedule. Check Christmas dates, baggage allowance, arrival transport and the next available flight if plans change.

BUCHAREST + BRAȘOV

London Stansted → Bucharest (OTP)

Our take: A useful comparison if you want capital-city time as well as the mountains. For a Brașov-only trip, add the onward journey before deciding the fare is cheaper.

Ryanair publishes this direct route. Compare the return flight, bags and transfers; a late arrival may require an extra hotel night. Allow a generous buffer before separate train or coach bookings.

How to find your own better-value Christmas flight

  1. Search a flexible window around your actual holiday dates. Compare early December, Christmas week and New Year separately; none is guaranteed cheapest.
  2. Compare nearby departure airports only after adding the journey there, parking and any overnight stay.
  3. Price both directions together, using the same baggage and seat needs. Check whether a cabin suitcase is included, rather than assuming it is.
  4. Read cancellation and change terms, airport check-in deadlines and the seller's contact details before paying. Book a schedule you can manage, not just the lowest headline fare.

Airline links are external booking links, not flight affiliate links. BOSS_IBI does not sell tickets or guarantee fares. Outside London? Start with your local airport's current route list and apply the same total-cost comparison.

What will the journey really cost?

Enter quotes in pounds for your whole group. The return fare is per person; all extras are group totals for both directions. This calculator does not fetch live prices.

BEYOND THE AIRPORT

Make Brașov your winter story

Brașov: an unhurried city base

Make your first day gentle: Council Square, the old-town streets and a warm café stop. Keep an indoor alternative for cold or wet weather. Book accommodation with clear arrival instructions, especially if your flight lands late.

Suggested rhythm: arrival day in town, a separate castle day, then a flexible mountain or café day. This is a suggested itinerary, not a tour package.

Bran Castle: history meets a famous legend

Bran is the castle commonly marketed as “Dracula's Castle”. Enjoy the atmosphere while remembering Dracula is a fictional character; the name is not proof the fictional count lived here.

Buy from the official castle website and check Christmas exceptions, timed entry and accessibility before travelling. Give the visit its own day rather than squeezing it between airport transfers.

Poiana Brașov & the mountains

Keep a mountain day optional. Snow, open ski runs and operating lifts are not guaranteed for your dates. Check local conditions and transport before leaving; a city walking itinerary is not preparation for a winter mountain hike.

Choose routes suited to your ability, check the forecast and ask local mountain rescuers about trail conditions. For unfamiliar winter terrain, arrange a qualified local guide. Follow Salvamont's mountain guidance; turn back if conditions deteriorate.

Another castle day? Consider Sinaia

Peleș offers a different royal-castle experience from Bran. Check the museum's current visiting information before building a day around it, including seasonal closures and which interiors can be visited.

Leave time for winter transport delays. Confirm restaurants, attractions and Christmas-market dates locally; this guide does not assume they operate on 24–26 December.

First European trip? Prepare with confidence.

Keep your passport, boarding pass, accommodation address and insurance details together. Check current entry requirements for your nationality and every country on your itinerary. UK passport holders should start with FCDO Romania entry advice; other nationalities should use their own consulate's guidance.

Pack warm layers, a waterproof outer layer, gloves and footwear with grip. Keep essential medicines and a spare warm layer accessible. Read your insurer's winter-sports cover before skiing; confirm airline rules for liquids, batteries and bags.
