1. Give the journey a simple structure

Write down your departure and arrival points, check-in times, first-night address and the route between the station or airport and your accommodation. Keep a copy offline. Add some space between connections so your plan does not depend on every stage running perfectly.

For a multi-stop trip, note each transfer separately. You may need different booking confirmations, baggage allowances or check-in arrangements for different operators. Keep the details for the journey home as easy to find as those for the outward trip.

2. Check requirements for your own circumstances

Your passport, nationality, destination and route determine the requirements. Do not assume that living in the UK gives everyone the same entry conditions. Review the relevant official sources before booking and again before travel.

Use official government websites for entry-system information and applications. Our checklist organises belongings; it is not an eligibility checker or a substitute for official travel advice.

3. Choose a packing starting point

Adapt the list to the weather and your actual plans. A city sightseeing trip, a beach stay and an outdoor holiday will need different clothing and equipment. Check what your accommodation provides before packing bulky extras.

4. Keep the useful details close

Make a small travel-day collection: the documents needed for that stage, booking references, accommodation address and your everyday personal essentials. Put things you will use immediately in a reachable pocket. Check payment and mobile-data arrangements before you need them on arrival.

Save the guides you want to refer to, or print your packing list before leaving home. You can use the planning tools without an email signup.
